I was born in Lexington, NC, a small town about an hour north of Charlotte. After high school I moved to Greensboro and eventually Charlotte. While living in Charlotte I became interested in politics and started watching the Mecklenburg County Commissioners meetings on our local cable access channel. (Commissioners are North Carolina's version of County Council.) My political turning point was when I tried multiple times to reach my commissioner with no response!! My irritation caused me to become active in local politics.

I moved to Greenville with my employer at the time, and subsequently changed careers. After taking real estate courses at Wyatt Institute, I became a REALTOR® and initially worked for Century 21. After about a year I moved to RE/MAX Foothills. As a real estate agent I speak to new people everyday, hear concerns and opinions from prospective and current clients, and make new friends. I have learned a great deal talking with clients who've welcomed me into their homes ... from the couple selling their home because they can no longer afford the payments, to the client who has to sell her home immediately because her company has transferred her position to another location. Many of these conversations include references to the need for a new vision for the County.

As a Greenbriar Precinct resident and lifelong Democrat, I currently serve as the Greenbriar Precinct President, a term which expires in 2010. A member of the G.G.A.R., I served on the grievance committee for two years and I also serve on the legislative committee. In addition to my work and political life, I am a member of the Greenville Junior Chamber of Commerce and president of my Home Owner's Association. I am also a member of HRC (Human Rights Campaign).
